In a show of strength, BJP bulldozed the opposition NCP, Congress and estranged ally Shiv Sena to win all the eight Assembly seats in Pune city.

The Assembly polls on October 15 witnessed a multi-cornered fight as Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena contested alone.

Tharoor was removed as Congress spokesperson following a recommendation by the party's disciplinary committee based on demand by the Kerala unit.

Khaps have drawn flak in recent years for controversial diktats on same-gotra (sub-caste) marriages and other issues.

"They say we haven't done any work during 60 years. Had that been the case, would the state have made the strides it has made," Rahul Gandhi said.

"The Prime Minister's position is being undermined and the standard of public debate has been lowered by those occupying it," the NCP chief said.

"I am dismayed to see so many people conjecturing on the cause of death on the basis of leaks and without knowing the complete facts," Sunanda Pushkar's son said.

Tharoor maintained that he has nothing to hide and was himself awaiting information from the police.
