SHARDIYA NAVRATRI 2023: Goddess Kalratri, also referred to as Goddess Shubhankari, the seventh incarnation of the goddess Durga, is worshipped on the seventh day of Navratri. When Goddess Parvati gave up her radiant complexion to kill the demons Shumbh and Nishumbh, she got the name Goddess Kalaratri. She is the most destructive form of the goddess because of her dark black appearance, three eyes, unkempt hair, and four hands in the Abhaya and Varada mudras. In her left hands, she is holding her astras (sword) and the deadly iron hook.

Notably, it is that time of the year when the devotees worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, known as Navdurga, namely Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri, with much fervour and zest during the festivities. This festival is celebrated twice a year. The first one is known as the Chaitra Navratri, which falls in March–April, and the other one falls in the months of September and October and is called the Sharad Navratri.
