A SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Leh had to return to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Sunday morning after a bird struck its engine mid-air.
The plane landed safely, and all passengers were deplaned without any issues.
According to TOI, an airport official reported that the flight took off at 10:30 am and landed back at the airport around 11 am. At 10:49 am, the flight requested priority landing with the air traffic controller (ATC).
A SpiceJet spokesperson confirmed, “On May 26, 2024, SpiceJet B737 aircraft operating SG123 from Delhi to Leh returned to Delhi after a bird hit engine two. The aircraft landed back safely in Delhi and passengers were deplaned normally.” The spokesperson clarified that the landing was normal and not an emergency.
The flight was carrying 135 passengers and landed safely around 11 am. The pilot reported engine vibrations to the ATC, according to an airport official.
