Tesla Model X, the crossover offering from the all-electric car manufacturer – Tesla Motors has received a five-star rating in all categories and sub-categories of NHTSA crash testing. As per Tesla, Model X is the first SUV to get a 5-star rating.
According to Tesla, the high score of the Tesla Model X can be attributed to its low center of gravity, that is made possible by the rigid battery pack mounted under the vehicle's floor. This design element gives the Model X the lowest rollover probability of any SUV.
A YouTube channl Crashnet has uploaded 2 videos of Tesla Model X undergoing crash test. While the frontal crash test is something usual for crash tests, the pole impact clip was a rather special to watch for.
While the pole impact test is done at 20 mph, the frontal collision is tested at 35 mph. The Model X is made to hit the pole sideways sustaining the impact on the driver side gullwing door, which they largely manage to withstand by staying closed.
The crash test results, according to Tesla, says that the occupants of a Model X have a 93 percent probability of walking away from a serious crash without a serious injury.
