Young batting sensation Shubman Gill shares a great bond with the senior players of the Indian cricket team. The youngster is often seen engaging in on-field banter with Virat Kohli, who he considers his cricketing idol as well. When there is an opportunity, Kohli also never refrains from pulling the legs of Gill. The camaraderie between the duo has once again become the talk of the town, thanks to a viral clip from India’s practice session ahead of the last World Cup game against the Netherlands. When the incident transpired, the Indian players were warming up on the field before the match would begin at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium.

In the video, supposedly recorded by a fan, Gill was spotted stretching his legs while doing the jump kicks. Though it had nothing to do with Virat Kohli, Gill gradually went quite close to the veteran batter. His sudden movement evidently startled Kohli. In response, the 35-year-old turned back to Gill and sarcastically threatened him with a bat. Gill immediately took a U-turn from there before the video ended.
Both Virat Kohli and Gill showed off their batting prowess in the match against the Netherlands. Coming to open India’s innings with captain Rohit Sharma, Gill put up a destructive show. The right-handed batter slammed four sixes and three boundaries, registering 51 runs off 32 balls. Gill returned to the pavilion after stitching a 100-run partnership with Rohit. Following his dismissal, Kohli arrived at the crease and continued his sublime form. He notched the fifth half-century of this World Cup before Roelof van der Merwe castled him with a baffling delivery.
After the top order built the foundation, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer took over the charge. They took time to get settled at the crease before going all guns blazing. Iyer remained unbeaten at 128 runs, while Rahul was dismissed for 102 runs. Riding on their contributions, India produced a mammoth 410 runs in 50 overs.
Coming in to defend, Rohit Sharma used nine bowlers. Apart from the regular ones, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit himself rolled their arms. Among them, Kohli and Rohit managed to pick one wicket each. Following India’s dominant display of bowling, the Netherlands folded their innings at 250 runs, losing all wickets in 47.5 overs.
Team India will now square off against New Zealand in the first semi-final on November 15.
