Randeep Hooda’s biographical film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar hit theatres on March 22, receiving positive feedback from critics and audiences alike. Ankita Lokhande, essaying the role of Yamunabai Savarkar, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s wife, has particularly garnered acclaim for her portrayal spanning from age sixteen to sixty. In an exclusive interview with news channel Aaj Tak, Lokhande delved into her decision to take on this challenging role.
The former Bigg Boss season 17 contestant showed her dedication to the craft, stating, “I don’t think too much about the image. I have just focused more on my role and acting.” She reiterated the fundamental role of an actor, expressing, “I am an actor and the job of an actor is to do whatever role they get a chance to play.”
Lokhande revealed that when producer Sandeep offered her the role, she couldn’t turn it down. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging that the role has elevated her acting abilities. “This role has raised my acting graph,” she remarked, showing the significance of portraying such a multifaceted character.
Despite facing controversies, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar has shown steady performance at the box office, amassing Rs 9.15 crore within the first five days of its release. The film, directed by Randeep Hooda, who also stars in the titular role and serves as co-producer and co-writer, boasts a talented cast including Amit Sial and Chetan Swaroop.
