Bharti buys 6 lakh Airtel shares for Rs 22.71 cr
Bharti Telecom purchased 98,000 shares for Rs 3.71 crore of the company at BSE on Monday.

Mumbai: Bharti Telecom, the majority stakeholder in private telecom operator Bharti Airtel, on Monday raised it stake marginally with purchase of six lakh shares of the company for Rs 22.71 crore through open market transactions.

Bharti Telecom has purchased a total of six lakh shares of the telecom firm through four market transactions worth a cumulative Rs 22.71 crore, Bharti Airtel, the country's largest private telecom company, said in a disclosure to the BSE.

Bharti Telecom purchased 98,000 shares for Rs 3.71 crore of the company at BSE through which its increased to 45.59 per cent which was 45.58 per cent prior to this the acquisition, as per the filing.

In another transaction, Bharti Telecom purchased 5,02,000 shares for more than Rs 19 crore and increased its stake from 45.59 per cent to 45.60 per cent at NSE.

Last week, Bharti Telecom purchased a total of over 14.93 lakh shares of the company for Rs 54.51 crore, through open market transactions. The promoter group firm acquired the shares on November 23 and November 24, 2011.

As per the shareholding pattern available on the BSE for the quarter ended September, Bharti Telecom held a 45.54 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel.

Recently, two top executives of Bharti Airtel sold a total of 1.15 lakh shares of the company worth Rs 4.60 crore through open market transactions.

Shares of Bharti Airtel on Monday closed at Rs 388.20 on the BSE, up by 3.55 per cent from their previous close.
