Public outcry over rising prices of pulses and other essential commodities has got the Congress worried.

New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has asked the Government to take urgent steps to manage the demand-supply gap to control the price rise.

The steep rise in the prices of essential food commodities has put the Congress-led UPA Government on a sticky wicket.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi convened the CWC meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the issue of price rise in the country.

Public outcry over rising prices of pulses and other essential commodities has got the Congress worried.

Sonia Gandhi's move came after the Left parties took up the issue at the coordination committee meeting. The Congress had come to power in 2004 on the calling card of the aam aadmi, but with the rise in prices under the UPA government, the aam aadmi is now feeling let down.

Sonia Gandhi has already expressed concerns over the price rise and with elections round the corner in states like Punjab and Uttaranchal, the party is worried that the common man may turn his back on the party.
