Istanbul: Italy's Fiat on Thursday offered to generously share expertise it has in the commercial vehicles space with Tata Motors, as it seeks to convert a marketing and distribution agreement between them into a full fledged technical collaboration.
"Yes in principle, beyond which is already (in place)," Fiat Group Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said in Istanbul when asked if the there was a scope for a technical collaboration between the two.
Earlier this year, Fiat group's commercial vehicle firm Iveco and Tata Motors signed a marketing and distribution pact, which the Italian firm now wants to evolve into a comprehensive partnership.
Marchionne said the Italian company was ready and willing to offer whatever it has to the Tatas to meet requirements.
"I told Ratan (Tata) that the whole of Fiat arsenal is available for him to look at," he added.
Heaping praises on the Indian auto major's record, he said: "I Like the Tatas. I like the organisation and the way they operate," Marchionne said.
Under the existing partnership, Tata Motors will market its commercial vehicles through Iveco's global sales network, which includes selling the runaway success mini truck 'Ace' in Latin American and other emerging markets like Russia, where the Indian manufacturer has no significant presence.
Tata will also get to use Iveco's established service network in these markets. In return, Iveco was also looking at utilising Tata's network in India for selling its products, especially in the light commercial vehicles segment.
