New Delhi: Looks like India has finally arrived on the international map of business. The Forbes 2007 Midas list released last week shows eight Indian names on the top 100 tech dealmakers of the world.

One of the frontrunners on the Forbes’ list 49-years old Ram Shriram received education in Chennai. He joined the Google board at its creation and made his bones in mid-1990s at Netscape.

"It died an early death but spawned other great companies," says Sriram who later advised and invested in several firms run by Netscapees (Tellme, Elance).

Learned to adapt during the tech bust, Sriram says, "Living in a world where everything is changing constantly, you learn to change."

Indians having similar profile include Arjun Gupta an MBA from Stanford—founder and managing partner of TeleSoft Partners—a venture capital firm operating with the biggest businesses of the world.

Other names include Parag Saxena (38), Rob Soni (42), Promode Haque (52), Navin Chaddha (58), Srinivas Akkaraju (84) and Ravi Mhatre (95)—all of them ranking high on the top 100 tech dealmakers of the world.

Rounding out the global win on the Forbes list is job search engine Naukri.com of India, which landed its investors on the Midas List.

“If new deals are any indication of future exits, we will soon see many more acquisitions and IPOs of fledgling firms from China, India, Korea and Eastern Europe,” quotes Forbes’ website.

The Forbes Midas List seeks to identify individuals who deploy venture capital to create wealth for their investors and build valuable, long-lasting companies. Only tech and life sciences companies that have gone public or been acquired within the past five years are considered.
