Mumbai: The Sensex sustained above 11,000. Buying was seen in technology and oil stocks. However, capital goods, banking, pharma, metal, FMCG and auto stocks lost ground.
The Sensex closed at 11,086.03, up 7.01 points or 0.06 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 11,146.85.
The Nifty ended at 3325, up 3.35 points or 0.10 per cent. It touched a life high of 3344.50.
However, the CNX Midcap closed at 4667.30, down 34.95 points or 0.74 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 4730.90.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,286.29, down 49.14 points. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,143.96, down 26.18 points.
The market breadth was negative, about 796 shares advanced, 1698 shares declined, and 67 shares remained unchanged.
Infosys, ONGC, Wipro, Maruti Udyog, GSK Pharma, MTNL and NALCO were the biggest gainers on the indices.
BHEL, Dr Reddy's Labs, Tata Power, ICICI Bank, SAIL and BPCL were the biggest losers on the indices.
The total market turnover was at Rs 54843.58 crore. The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 11494 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37434.08 crore. The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 5915.5 crore.
The BSE IT Index outperformed the other indices in the whole session. It closed at 3,932.77, up 1.37% as buying was seen in Hexaware Tech, Infosys, MphasiS BFL, Wipro and HCL Tech.
Some gains were also seen in oil stocks. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed at 4,851, up 0.15 per cent.
However, Capital goods stocks like KEC Infrastructures, Carborundum, Alstom Projects, Thermax, BEML, Praj Industries, Ingersoll Rand, Bharat Electronics, BHEL, L&T, Aban LoydChiles, Siemens and ABB. The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 7,991.12, down 1.38 per cent or 111.63 points.
The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed at 3,166.86, down 0.99 per cent due to gains in Su-Raj Diamonds, Samtel Color, BPL, Titan Industries and Blue Star.
Banking stocks including Canara Bank, UTI Bank, Bank of India, Andhra Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda and PNB also moved up. The BSE Bankex closed 5,244.91, down 0.89 per cent.
Pharma stocks like Apollo Hospital, Aurobindo Pharma, Ipca Labs, Dr Reddy's Labs, Divis Labs, Lupin, Glenmark, Wyeth and Cipla also ended lower. The BSE Healthcare Index ended at 3,701.72, down 0.56 per cent.
Some metal, auto and FMCG stocks also finished in red. The BSE Metal Index closed at 8,482.81, down 0.19 per cent. The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,258.31, down 0.16 per cent. The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,171.94, down 0.09 per cent.
