Mumbai: The markets ended flat, ahead of the F&O expiry day, as some profit booking was seen during the later part of the day.
The Sensex closed at 13,616.73 up 14.78 points or 0.1 per cent. The Nifty gained 6 points to close at 3928.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,635.01 up 103.62 points or 1.6 per cent.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,727.85 up 76.64 points or 1.4 per cent.
The BSE Bankex lost 0.2 per cent at 7,088.37. UTI Bank, Kotak Mahindra, Allahabad Bank, Oriental Bank and Union Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.3 per cent at 8,945.12. Gammon India, BEML, Praj Industries, Aban Offshore and SKF India closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index flat at 3,720.64. Divis Labs, Cipla, GlaxoSmithKline, Ipca Labs and Wockhardt closed lower.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.7 per cent to close at 6,093.62. IOC, HPCL, BPCL and ONGC ended in red.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,337.35 up 0.6 per cent. Escorts, Punj Tractors, Apollo Tyres, Asahi India and MRF moved upwards.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.7 per cent to close at 8,981.10. Guj NRE Coke, Jindal Saw, SAIL, JSW Steel, Welspun Guj ended in green.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.5 per cent at 2,014.94. Dabur India, McDowell, Colgate, Shaw Wallace and HLL closed in green.
The BSE IT Index lost 0.1 per cent at 5,037.74. HCL Info, Moser Baer, Infosys, Mphasis BFL declined.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8067.85 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37178.05 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4390.01 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 49635.91 crore.
