New Delhi: The markets on Wednesday opened on positive note in the morning trade following positive Asian cues and strong buying interest in NTPC and Bharti Airtel.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) benchmark Sensex has raised by almost 50 points in early trade on increased buying by funds as well as retail investors.

The BSE-30 share index, Sensex, which had gained nearly 40 points on Tuesday, was up by 50.34 points or 0.35 per cent at 14,585.35, in the first five minutes of the trade.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty regained 4,300 points mark to quote 39.45 points higher at 4,324.10.

Stockbrokers said pick-up in buying in heavy-weight stocks influenced the market sentiments. Reports of weakening trend in Chinese stock market were discounted by the market, they added.

Major gainers were BHEL, Tata Steel, Larsen and Toubro, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel and Cipla.

Asian stocks were trading on a flat note on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei trading slightly higher.

While Japan's Nikkei was up 0.60 per cent at 18,054.41, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 0.75 per cent or 62.63 points at 8,366.62. Hong Kong's Hang Seng advanced 0.16 per cent or 33.63 points at 20,875.78. South Korea's Seoul Composite rose 0.26 per cent or 4.6 points at 1,742.19.

However, Singapore's Straits Times slipped 0.20 per cent or 7.04 points at 3,565.86.
