Markets are trading in green with marginal gains. The BSE metal index has outperformed the other sectoral indices; it was up over 1% at 16844. The BSE consumer durable, realty, bank, oil & gas stocks are trading positive. However, auto, FMCG and IT indices are witnessing selling pressure.
The BSE midcap and smallcap indices are up nearly 1% each.
At 10.13 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 40.99 points or 0.25% at 16566.36, and the Nifty up 11.30 points or 0.23% at 4929.65.
About 1718 shares have advanced, 1221 shares declined, and 171 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the bourses are HDFC, Jaiprakash Asso, Reliance Comm and Sterlite Ind
Tata Motors, ITC, Infosys, Sun Pharma and Suzlon Energy are top loser on the bourses.
Most active shares on BSE are Chambal Fert, Piramal Life and Godrej Consumer.
Markets @ 9.56 am: Mkts open positive; Realty, metal, IT stocks gain
The markets have opened positive following global cues. Buying interest is seen in realty metal, technologies and capital goods stocks. However, IT and auto stocks are trading weak.
At 9.56 am, the Sensex is up 80 points or at 16605, and the Nifty up 28 points or at 4946.
BHEL, Cairn India, GAIL India, HDFC Bank, L&T, Tata Steel among major gainers
However, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Infosys and ITC are among major losers
Asian Markets
Asian markets were trading higher. China's Shanghai Composite was up 0.22% or 7.75 points at 3,466.78. Japan's Nikkei gained 2.80% or 383.28 points at 14,092.72. Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.91% or 221.14 points at 24,470.65. Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted surged 0.87% or 75.06 points at 8,740.79. Singapore's Straits Times advanced 0.89% or 27.84 points at 3,160.62. South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 1.75% or 31.68 points at 1,837.32.
US Markets
The US markets ended higher after a volatile session. The move was lead by better-than-forecast durable goods orders and positive financial results from select retailers. The Dow Jones closed up 46 points to shut at 12,594. Nasdaq was up 5 points and shut shop at 2,487. The S&P 500 index shut shop 5 points higher as well at 1,3901.
