Sensex ends knocking at 13k
The BSE Sensex, continued its upward march and hit 12900 for the first time during morning trading on firm global cues.

Mumbai: It was third day of rally for the markets taking the Sensex to a new life time high crossing the 12,900 levels. The rally was led by frontline IT, a couple of private banking stocks, however, the midcaps and the smallcaps did not go anywhere although they started strong.

The Sensex closed at 12,928.18 up 191.76 points or 1.5 per cent, knocking the doors of 13,000. The Nifty gained 47 points to close at 3724. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,398.01 down 19 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,296.40 up 8 points.

Other than the auto index, all the other BSE sectoral indices ended in green.

The BSE IT Index gained 1.05 per cent at 4,847.42. Hexaware Tech, TCS, Wipro, Satyam and HCL Info advanced.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1.2 per cent to close at 5,975.65. Reliance, ONGC and Petronet LNG closed higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.5 per cent at 8,469.12. Lakshmi Machine, L&T, ABB, BEML and Carborundum closed higher.

The BSE Bankex was up 2.5 per cent at 6,255.99. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Karnataka Bank, UTI Bank and Kotak Mahindra moved upwards.

The BSE FMCG Index rose 1.7 per cent at 2,070.65. Nestle, ITC, Dabur India, Shaw Wallace and Tata Tea closed in green.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.02 per cent at 3,658.22. Biocon, Cadila Health, Cipla, Wockhardt and Matrix Lab closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index was up 1.2 per cent to close at 8,791.88. Hind Zinc, Hindalco, JSW Steel, Mah Seamless and Jindal Saw ended higher.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,487.26 down 0.3 per cent.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7428.77 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 29285.11 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3462.33 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 40176.21 crore.
