New Delhi: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index Sensex failed to hold early gain and shed 18 points on Friday on emergence of profit selling by funds.
The BSE-30 share index, which started higher by 9.39 points, fell down by 18.74 points at 14,480.50 in first five minutes of trade. Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange's Nifty lost 4.90 points at 4267.55.
Stockbrokers said weakening trend in Asian markets influenced the trading sentiment. They said a constant rise in share prices in last three trading sessions also attracted profit-selling at higher levels.
Top gainers on the Sensex were Reliance Energy at Rs 574.25 up 2.47 per cent, SBI at Rs 1,469.50 up 1.66 per cent and NTPC at Rs 152.35 up 1.50 per cent.
Top losers on the Sensex were Ambuja Cements at Rs 118.20 down 1.01 per cent, Reliance at Rs 1,715.90 down 1 per cent and Tata Motors at Rs 681 down 0.87 per cent.
Most active shares on BSE are Time Technoplast at Rs 600.30 with 3,50,426 shares, Reliance at Rs 1,715.90 with 1,19,325 shares and JSW Steel at Rs 605.40 with 3,04,014 shares.
Top percentage gainers on the BSE are Amarjothi Spin at Rs 35.75 up 19.97 per cent, Mahindra Comp at Rs 72.15 up 19.85 per cent and Valiant Comm at Rs 40 up 18.34 per cent.
Top percentage losers on the BSE are Grauer and Weil at Rs 60.10 down 19.97 per cent, Milkfood at down Rs 221 down 19.64 per cent and Guj Intrux at Rs 37.00 down 13.95 per cent.
BSe Midcap and Smallcap has outperformed the Sensex and Midacap was up 0.61 per cent at 6412.4 and Smallcap was up 0.70 per cent at 7548.2.
