Days following the Marakkuma Nenjam concert by AR Rahman in Chennai, the event organizer, ACTC Events, has released an official statement expressing regret over the mishandling of the event. The CEO of the organization, Hemanth Raja, took to Instagram to post a video in which he requested fans to not hold AR Rahman accountable, as he took full responsibility for the unfortunate incident. The issue stemmed from purportedly overselling tickets for the concert, resulting in a chaotic situation at the venue – almost like a stampede – during which many women reported instances of being groped and harassed.
The CEO of the event organiser said in the clip, “Our goal was to guarantee an unforgettable night of Rahman sir’s songs for his fans. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, many couldn’t access the venue. We accept full responsibility for this and are accountable.”
He went on to say that AR Rahman bore no responsibility for the incident and that fault is entirely theirs. “He is not one to blame. It’s completely our mistake. Don’t spread negativity about him. He did his job one hundred per cent and the majority were enjoyed, but we failed. We take full responsibility,” he said, adding that the problem wasn’t caused by overselling tickets, but rather arose from ticket duplication and overcrowding. He also assured that the company would offer refunds to those who had purchased tickets but were unable to attend the event, urging them to reach out with complete details. His post was captioned: “We are with you.”
Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman’s fans were left angry and disappointed after his concert in Chennai, Marakkuma Nenjam, wasn’t managed properly. On Sunday, thousands of AR Rahman fans made their way to attend the concert of the musician that took place on the outskirts of the city. While excited fans lined up outside the venue to witness the music maestro on stage, several fans took to X (previously known as Twitter) to reveal that the venue was overbooked, and many were not even allowed to enter the concert premises despite holding a valid ticket.
