Viral video shows several men staring at a woman journalist on a Chennai local train. Here's what happened.

A woman recently found herself being scrutinised by several men while seated on a local train in Chennai around 2 a.m. This was part of Hauterrfly’s investigative campaign, where their journalist created a video to gauge the safety of late-night travel for women in Chennai, which subsequently went viral on social media. As she boarded the city’s local train to observe the situation, she encountered an unexpected, unsettling, and frightening incident.

Recording the persistent stares from men on the train, she captured various individuals fixating on her with inappropriate intentions. From men seated on the floor continuously staring at her to others in seats casting lewd gazes, the journalist documented it all. However, the distressing moment occurred when she witnessed a man seated some distance away making obscene gestures with his tongue and touching himself inappropriately. This shocking scene left the journalist frozen in disbelief at what she had just witnessed and experienced.

However, some Redditors speculated that the attention the journalist garnered was due to her public recording. “All the others except the blue shirt guy was doin their own thing, and if you take out a phone and start recording in a train people will look at you. The woman in the beginning was also looking,” opined one user.

Another raised concerns about privacy infringement, asking, “Everyone who walk around at public place with a phone/camera and recording everyone, people stare at them like this. Who gave you right to record everyone and upload it on social media?? Isn’t it breach of their privacy??”
