Delhi batter Priyansh Arya set the Arun Jaitley Stadium ablaze with his historic with South Delhi Superstarz skipper Ayush Badon in the ongoing DPL 2024 on Saturday. The duo made a mockery of   North Delhi’s bowling attack, stitching a world record stand of 286 runs, now the highest partnership for any wicket in the shortest format of the game.

The camaraderie between Badoni and Arya saw a plethora of records getting rewritten. While the former set the record for most maximums – 19 – in a T20 innings, his partner recreated legendary Yuvraj Singh’s feat of six sixes in an over.

It was the 12^th over of South Delhi’s innings when Arya launched an assault against North Delhi’s Manan Bhardwaj, smashing 36 runs in an over. He went on to notch his second hundred in the ongoing tournament, scoring 120 off just 50 deliveries with the help of 10 boundaries and as many sixes.

The record stand between Badoni and Arya helped the South Delhi team post a total of 308 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, which is a record for the second-highest total in T20s. Nepal registered the highest-ever team total in T20 history (314) against Mongolia in 2023.

Badoni and Arya went past the Japanese duo of L Yamamoto-Lake and K Kadowaki-Fleming who stitched an unbeaten partnership of 258 runs against China. Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani are placed third on the list.

Meanwhile, Badoni’s 165-run knock off 55 balls helped him break Shreyas Iyer’s record of highest score in T20s by an Indian batter. Iyer had amassed 147 runs for Mumbai against Sikkim during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match played in Indore on February 21, 2019.
