Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra’s bold remarks on Virat Kohli in a podcast had taken social media by storm. Mishra claimed that Kohli’s behaviour changed drastically after getting the leadership responsibilities, so much so that the two nearly stopped talking to each other. Mishra’s words sparked massive outrage on social media as his interview became one of the biggest talking points in the cricketing circle.
The question about the change in Kohli’s nature was also asked to former leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, and the latter reckoned that the former Indian captain is just as how he was 15 years ago. Speaking in a podcast with ‘2 Sloggers’ on YouTube, Chawala spoke about the bond he shares with Kohli.
“Irrespective of whatever amount of cricket I have played, how much I know him, I have always had a very good experience. He played junior cricket together, then in the IPL and for India together. Everyone has their own mindset. Even today we meet very nicely,” Chawla said on the ‘2 Sloggers’ podcast.
Chawala further shared an anecdote with Kohli from Asia last year where the two had a light-hearted chat, just like old days.
“In fact, when Kohli was playing in the Asia Cup, I was there was commentary. I was near the boundary just after the innings break. He came and said PC yaar, chal kuch achha sa order karein (PC, let’s order something nice). We both are very fond of food. So even today we speak the same way as we did 10-15 years ago,” Chawla added.
Chawala responds to Mishra’s interview
While Chawal spoke about his relationship with Kohli, he also spoke a few words about Mishra without taking the latter’s name.
“The leg-spinner who is in question here, I have learnt a lot from him. He is a senior and the way he has played his cricket and bowled during his career, he has been fantastic. I saw the podcast. It was quite amazing,” added Chawla.
