'Don't Think He's Done': Mohammad Kaif Believes MS Dhoni Can Continue Playing in the IPL
Mohammed Kaif reckons that MS Dhoni can still continue playing in the IPL and suggested that the legend would want to bow out from the tournament on a more positive note.

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif reckons MS Dhoni should continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rumours about Dhoni’s retirement have emerged after his team Chennai Super Kings crashed out of the ongoing tournament. Many fans feel the World Cup-winning captain has achieved enough success that he doesn’t need to prove anything further in the twilight phase of his career. However, there are people who believe that the 42-year-old will feature in the next season of the IPL with an aim to add the sixth IPL title to his huge trophy cabinet.

Amid speculations about his potential retirement, Mohammad Kaif has urged MS Dhoni not to stop playing if his physical strength permits. According to reports, Dhoni has been carrying a muscle injury on his leg which restricted his movement in this IPL. He has mainly served the role of a finisher, contributing with quickfire cameos down the order.

The former CSK captain, however, failed in his last assignment. In the final league game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni arrived at the crease when his team needed 72 runs to reach the playoffs. He paired up with Ravindra Jadeja and played some impressive shots, including a 110-metre six, which landed outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Dhoni ultimately fell victim to a slower delivery off Yash Dayal. Following his dismissal, the legendary finisher was spotted punching his bat in much disappointment before leaving the ground. Mohammad Kaif took it as a hint of the hunger left in the five-time IPL winner. He referred to the topic during a recent chat with news agency PTI.

“Personally, I don’t think he’s done, he could not win the last league match against RCB. In the last over after hitting a six, he got out. You could make out seeing the body language that he seemed very disappointed not winning the game for CSK,” Kaif was quoted saying.

Kaif shed light on Dhoni’s fitness and batting form, saying, “Why he should not come back? He is fit, he is scoring runs and hitting sixes, and there’s no reason to stop playing… it’s up to him, we can’t say with Dhoni what’s his plan.”

MS Dhoni has yet to address the rumours about his IPL retirement. According to media reports, he will visit London soon to seek medical attention for his muscle injury. Dhoni may take the final call after considering the recovery process.
