Fast-bowling James Anderson was presented with a guard of honour by both the England and West Indies teams before the start of Day 3 of the first Test that took place at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday. The fixture is set to be Anderson’s last international game as will have retired from representing the national side.

The Windies side had planned to give the legendary quick bowler the guard of honour when he had come out to bat at the end of the first innings but according to Jason Holder, the side was too busy celebrating the wicket which led to the team forgetting about the ordeal.

Anderson looked to be filled with emotions but did not let it out as he knew that the game was yet to be completed. England started the third day with four wickets needed to take the innings victory.
The 41-year-old was quick to strike as he got the wicket of Joshua da Silva thanks to the thick outside edge which carried to the keeper to make it his third in the innings and fourth in total.
It will be an emotional moment for all English cricket fans as they will be witnessing the final moments of arguably their greatest ever fast-bowler to ever represent the country.
He is the only fast bowler to have crossed 700 wickets in Test cricket and also the third-highest wicket-taker behind the legendary names of Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan at 800 and Australia’s Shane Warne at 708 wickets respectively.

Anderson still believes himself to be in good enough shape to continue but the England management believes that it might be the best time to end his long career as they would want to begin their preparations early on for their Ashes tour to Australia next year.
The English debutant, Gus Atkinson rose to the occasion and stepped up massively as he delivered a 10-wicket haul to put England on the brink of victory just as Anderson has done time and again.
