MI won the toss and opted to put KKR to bat first following a delay in the match proceedings due to inclement weather in Kolkata. The fixture was reduced to 16-overs-a-side as a result of the delay.

KKR opened the batting with the pair that has proven incredible for them this season as Phil Salt and Narine came out to bat. The Englishman opened the game with a six off the first ball off Nuwan Thushara before the Sri Lankan seamer dismissed the MI batter in the very same over.
Bumrah came in to open the bowling from the other end and struck with his first delivery of the day as his peach of a delivery hit timber after Narine misjudged the swing of the ball that came back in to hit the off stump and clean the Windies maverick out.
With the openers, who have provided KKR bright starts throughout the season, back in the dugout the onus fell on Venkatesh Iyer and skipper Shreyas Iyer to steady the innings.
Venkatesh scored 17 runs off Bumrah’s second over of the day before Shreyas was sent back to the hut to accompany his fallen teammates by Anshul Kamboj, who hit the batter’s leg stump.
Nitish Rana came out to replace his skipper at the crease as KKR managed to put up a score of 52 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 6 overs.
