The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to begin on Saturday, February 17, as the Lahore Qalandars take on Islamabad United in the opening fixture. Lahore Qalandars are the defending champions. They faced the Mulan Sultans in the final of the last edition of the PSL. The two teams went neck-to-neck in the epic clash with Lahore Qalandars edging out their opponents by a single run to win the crown. The match began with Abdullah Shaifque and Shaheen Afridi producing some crucial knocks for Lahore Qalandars to put up a 200-run total. In the second innings, the captain delivered once again by scalping four wickets. He did prove to be a little more expensive than his compatriots at an economy of 12.75. The wickets came just in time to secure the match. Lahore Qalandars will now be hoping to beat Islamabad United to start their title defence on a winning note.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the PSL 2024 opener between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United. Islamabad United were able to make the playoff stage in the PSL 2023 but lost their knockout game to Peshawar Zalmi. They will be aiming to make the playoffs again as they face Lahore this weekend.
