Me & Gill Are Taking One Day At A Time: Yashasvi Jaiswal On Comparisons With Rohit & Kohli
Jaiswal top-scored for India in the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe by scoring 93 runs from 53 balls. He added 156 runs for the first wicket with Shubman Gill in 15.2 overs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored for India on Saturday (July 13) in the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe by scoring 93 runs from 53 balls. His super show with the bat in the penultimate match of the ongoing five-match series played at Harare Sports Club helped India chase down the target of 153 runs in 15.2 overs and win the match by 10 wickets. During his stay at the crease, Jaiswal added 156 runs for the first wicket with Shubman Gill.

For his super show with the bat in the match, which helped India seal the ongoing T20I series, Jaiswal won the Player of the Match award. After winning the POTM award in his 19th T20I for India, 22-year-old Jaiswal, who was part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title in the West Indies and USA last month, said batting superstar Virat Kohli and Indian captain Rohit Sharma have done “incredible things” for the Indian team, and he doesn’t want him or his opening partner Shubman Gill to face the burden of expectations so early in their careers.

“I think what they have done for Indian cricket is just incredible, and being a part of that dressing room is a blessing. We (him and Gill) are trying to take it match-by-match and one day at a time, focusing on the process,” Jaiswal told reporters in a media interaction after the 4th T20I.

Jaiswal and Gill are seen as long-term replacements for Kohli and Rohit in the Indian team by many fans and former greats of the game. Like Rohit and Kohli, Gill and Jaiswal bat in the top order and have established themselves as key members of the Indian team in the Test and T20I formats of the game.

Back-to-back fifties for Gill

Gill, who missed out on a place in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 team, scored 58 runs from 39 balls in the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe. The half-century on Saturday was his second 50-plus score in the ongoing series. During the third T20I played in Harare on Wednesday (July 10), Gill scored 66 runs, which helped India post a total of 182 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs.

The 58-run knock against the Sikandar Raza-led side also helped Gill become India’s leading run scorer in T20Is played against Zimbabwe. He has 157 runs to his name in four matches, which is 24 more than the 133-run total by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
