'Others Bat at 4 or 5 But I Come at 7 or 8': Pakistan's Iftikhar Ahmed Issues Bizarre Admission Deeming Himself as a 'Tail-ender'

Iftikhar Ahmed was left frustrated after members of the media kept referring to him as a middle-order batter which resulted in a bizarre expression of his role within the Pakistan Cricket Team.

During an interaction with the media, Iftikhar clarified that his position was that of a tailender rather than a middle-order batter.

“I am not a middle-order player, I am a lower-order one. Not an all-rounder but a tail-ender because when you see I come out to bat at 7-8. Normal middle-order batters come out at 4 or 5 but I come in at 7 or 8. So I have realised that I am a tail-ender,” said Iftikhar Ahmed.

The 34-year-old has indeed been used in the lower order where his primary role is that of a finisher like Tim David in Australia who is expected to strike big right from ball one.

But it could be that the veteran seems to have been frustrated by his current position within the Pakistan Cricket Team.

His position within the side is also in doubt after Pakistan suffered yet another horrific performance in an ICC tournament by getting eliminated in the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Test team is also witnessing their worst period at home as they suffered a 0-2 series defeat at the hands of Bangladesh for the first time in history.

The poor form of the team has resulted in several questions being asked of the management, players and event the Pakistan Cricket Board. But it looks like a long road ahead for Pakistan cricket fans who would need to see a miracle to ensure that Pakistan cricket is back on top.

Iftikhar will look to showcase his best performance with both bat and ball as he represents the Dolphins in the Champion’s One-day Cup where the team is led by Mohammad Rizwan.
