After an unprecedented delay in the squad announcement for the T20 World Cup, Babar Azam is set to lead the proceedings for the 2009 winners in the United States and the West Indies. Haris Rauf has returned to the Pakistan squad, significantly boosting their bowling unit for the tournament. Rauf suffered an injury in January this year and hasn’t played a game for Pakistan since then.
Talking about their squad, the Pakistan Cricket Board said, “This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well-prepared and settled for next month’s event.”
Several new faces will feature in Pakistan’s squad for this year’s T20 World Cup. Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan will be making their maiden appearances at the tournament. Hasan Ali is a notable absentee on this list.
Pakistan have been placed in Group A alongside teams like India, Ireland, Canada, and the co-hosts USA. They are currently playing a bilateral T20I series against England and will soon travel to the Caribbean for the World Cup.
