India’s wicketkeeper-batter, Dhruv Jurel is working up to be quite the player. After having an impressive show during the recently concluded home series against England, Jurel is once again set to be part of the Indian squad as they take on Bangladesh in a two-match affair at home.
The 23-year-old opened up about what it was like playing under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and revealed his very unfiltered approach where he can be aggressive on the field, but the caring elder brother when off the field as well.
“He doesn’t sit with the seniors, he calls in the youngsters like me Sarfaraz or Jaiswal and asks us what’s going on and all. It’s fun if you ask me,” Jurel revealed in an interview uploaded on Jatin Sapru’s YouTube channel.

Jurel suggested that Rohit Sharma has set the highest expectations from his players, where he wants each team member to give their 100 per cent as it is a massive privilege to represent the country playing the most popular sport as well.
He just wants that when we are on the ground and playing for India, then you can’t be loose. You have to give your 100 per cent because everyone is watching. Not everyone can play for India,” he shared.
“Even he gives his 100 per cent as well and he might tell us to go here and there but after the game, in the evening, it’s all casual,” he added.
With the return of Rishabh Pant in the Test scene, Jurel’s chances of featuring in Test cricket could be reduced. Nonetheless, he is arguably the best second-choice wicketkeeper-batter India has had in recent times.

When not playing the longest format, Jurel has also shown his proficiency with the bat in limited overs where he plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and also captains the Gorakhpur Lions in the UPT20 league as well.
Just like his idol, MS Dhoni, Jurel has also shown decent abilities when playing in the finisher role and looks to be groomed for the Royals to be their finisher in the years to come, should he be with the franchise.
