Navneet Anand hails from the village Harbhanga in Bihar’s Purnia district and has cracked the coveted Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Exam (CSE) on his third attempt. At 23, he has secured AIR 499 in his third attempt in 2023. He has completed his education in Delhi and Rajasthan and had to endure a tough childhood before finding success in the UPSC examinations. Navneet recalls becoming the breadwinner of his house in class 7th only after his father’s death. He had to shoulder the responsibilities of supporting his family. While earning for the family, The Purnia native didn’t let this become an obstacle in his academics. Now, after getting through the UPSC examinations, he has been allotted the Indian Police Service cadre. He talked more about his arduous journey in an exclusive interview with News 18 Hindi.
Navneet studied at the Sainik School, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan from 2010-2017. The training at this institution instilled a value of discipline in his personality that helped him shape his career. He pursued his graduation in Economics from Dr BR Ambedkar University, Delhi (2017-2020) and then opted for a Masters in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics (2020-2022). Besides academics, Navneet also has a profound interest in sports. The Purnia native utilised his time in the college and started preparing for the competitive examinations while simultaneously completing his graduation.
As of now, he is undergoing training as an Assistant Commander in the Central Industrial Security Force. He had prepared for the UPSC interview along with his training. Besides the UPSC CSE, Navneet also displayed his skills by clearing the UPSC CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) and CDS (Combined Defence Services Examination) exams. He also qualified for the UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test).
Navneet relied on the self-study method the most in his preparation strategy for the UPSC exam. He also revised the core books which helped him a lot in covering the whole syllabus for the examination. The Purnia native remained mentally tough during his preparation even though he failed twice in his attempts to clear UPSC.
Navneet has asked the aspirants not to burden themselves with excessive study material. According to him, the aspirants can learn a lot by going through a few books and the NCERT study material as well.
