ICAI May Reschedule CA May-June Exams to Prevent Overlapping with 2024 General Elections
This postponement will only take place if the dates coincide with the 2024 general elections. The 18th Lok Sabha general election dates are yet to be announced

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has informed that the CA Foundation, Final, and Intermediate examinations for the May session might have to be postponed. However, this postponement will only take place if the dates coincide with the 2024 general elections. The announcement regarding this year’s general election for the 18th Lok Sabha is still awaited. The registration window for the CA May test 2024 without the late fee concluded on February 23, 2024.

In anticipation of the upcoming elections, the institute in an official announcement has stated that “The Examination Committee may reschedule the May 2024 CA Examination, if the dates of the General Election coincide with the present examination schedule.”

Alongside this, the committee has introduced a policy stipulating a cooling-off period of one attempt after three consecutive attempts for those undertaking observership duties. Recently, the ICAI outlined the eligibility criteria for individuals seeking appointment as observers. The committee mandates that applicants should be below the age of 65, refrain from coaching students, and have a clean legal record.

As part of its recent announcement, the ICAI has disclosed the honorarium details for observers, with a compensation of Rs 3,000 per day or each session. Additionally, a conveyance reimbursement of Rs 350 is allocated for ‘A’ class cities, while other cities will receive Rs 250 per day to cover local travel expenses. Cities such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune fall under the category of ”A” cities. Interested individuals seeking to register as observers have until March 5 to complete their registration at observers.icaiexam.icai.org.

For the CA May exams in 2024, candidates who missed the initial application deadline have the opportunity to register with a late fee of Rs 600 or 10 US dollars, according to the provided schedule. From March 3 to 9, all registered candidates are permitted to make amendments to their submitted forms. The registration for CA Foundation, Intermediate, and Final exams must be completed on the official website, eservices.icai.org.

The CA exams are scheduled for May 2 to 13 for Intermediate, Final, and PQC exams, while the Foundation exams are set for June 20, 22, 24, and 26.
