School Holidays: Winter Break Begins in Delhi, Haryana Schools From Today
The Delhi and Haryana government has announced winter break for all government and private schools starting today, Jan 1

Schools in Delhi have commenced winter vacation from today, January 1, 2024. The winter vacation will carry on till January 6. This year, for schools in Delhi, the holidays have been reduced to six days from 15 earlier. This is because a portion of the winter break was adjusted from November 9 to 18 due to severe air pollution in the national capital. “However, in order to ensure that our students are not adversely affected due to the poor air quality in Delhi, a portion of winter Vacation was observed from November 9 to November 18,” the DoE said.

The Haryana state government has also announced winter break for all government and private schools in the state starting today. Schools will remain closed in the state for 15 days, from January 1 to 15. Haryana Chief Minister’s Office had said, “In view of the increasing cold, the Haryana government has announced winter vacation from January 1 to January 15, 2024 in all government and private schools of the state. During this period all schools will remain closed.”

In many states, a significant drop in temperature is expected at the beginning of the year, due to which winter vacations are also likely to increase. Students will get plenty of time to prepare for the examinations to be held in February-March 2024. If the temperature improves, then schools will open in the second week. If this does not happen then holidays will remain till January 14, 2024. After this, schools will remain closed in the third week on festivals like Lohri, and Makar Sankranti. Besides, there will be a holiday in many states on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.
