Enhanced Security, Detailed Protocols Necessary In Delhi Schools: Centre
In the wake of hoax emails received by schools in different parts of Delhi-NCR, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla reviewed the situation and stressed the need to enhance security, CCTV cameras, and regular monitoring of emails in schools. The home secretary also emphasised the need to prepare standard operating procedures (SOP) and detailed protocols to handle any such situation in the future. He also asked the Delhi Police and schools to remain in close coordination for an effective response mechanism to avoid any unnecessary panic caused by misinformation. The Delhi Chief Secretary and the Delhi Police Commissioner marked their attendance during the meeting.
Arvind Kejriwal Gets Interim Bail
The Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in the money-laundering case linked to a controversial liquor policy. The court’s decision was welcomed by political allies of the AAP, including the Congress, the Trinamool Congress, and the Shiv Sena (UBT), among others. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader will campaign in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, however, he has to surrender on June 2, two days before the election results. Moreover, the top court has ordered him not to perform any chief minister’s duties during this period.
Pannun case has not impacted India-US bilateral ties at All: EAM Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently stated that the upward trajectory of India-US relations has had no influence by accusations of an Indian link to a foiled assassination plot. In an exclusive interview with PTI, the EAM claimed that the fundamentals of India-US ties are very robust and the accusations have not impacted the relations. Notably, the US government charged an Indian national with conspiring to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York in November. Days after Washington accused India of involvement in the conspiracy, India formed a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the inputs received from the US in the matter. As per reports, Pannun was sought in India on terror charges, and he possesses dual citizenship with the US and Canada.
HC Directs MCD, DDA To Shut Down Coaching Centres Violating Safety Norms
The Delhi High Court ordered the DDA and the MCD to immediately close the coaching centres functioning in violation of the fire safety norms. The bench, headed by Justice Yashwant Varma, also directed the authorities to relocate electrical equipment situated outside their premises, which may endanger the public. The judgement came in response to a slew of petitions challenging the functioning of coaching centres in the area, including one that the high court had registered on its own after taking cognizance of a fire incident at one of them in June 2023.
Sunita Williams Ready For Her Third Space Flight Aboard Boeing’s Starliner
Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams is preparing to venture into space for the third time on Tuesday. This time, the pilot will be aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft on its first crewed test flight. Starliner will blast off for the International Space Station from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Boeing’s Starliner will carry Williams and Butch Wilmore to the International Space Station. This space mission has been delayed for several years due to setbacks in the spacecraft’s development, but finally the lift-off is scheduled for 22:34 local time on Monday (8:04 am IST on Tuesday).
