Ranvir Shorey Did Govinda-David Dhawan's Do Knot Disturb 'Under Pressure': 'I Was Dead Body for...' | Exclusive
Ranvir Shorey reveals he wasn't 'ashamed' to talk about having no work during Bigg Boss OTT 3. He adds going through a lull in his career multiple times.

Ranvir Shorey’s entry into the third season of Bigg Boss OTT came as a surprise to many. What further shocked them was his reason for joining the reality show. He revealed that he was going through a period when offers had dried up, and a couple of projects he had shot for didn’t see the light of day. That’s when he decided to give the show a shot. Following Bigg Boss OTT, he’s now seen in a detective web series titled Shekhar Home, which is currently streaming on JioCinema.

In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Ranvir said that after doing commercial films like Singh Is Kinng, he thought his career would take a different turn when he was offered a script by David Dhawan. Recalling the hilarious episode, he tells us, “My funniest casting experience involved David Dhawan sir. I was fresh off a few mainstream films. He called me up and told me, ‘Tu bahot achcha actor hai, beta. Tu kya kaam karta hai, Ranvir!’”

Upon David Dhawan’s insistence, Ranvir decided to sign the film. Narrating what happened next, Ranvir shares, “He then told me to do his next film called Do Knot Disturb, starring Govinda. It was their comeback film together as a director-actor duo. Since David sir is a box office icon, I said yes under that pressure. And then he gave me a role where I was a dead body for almost 90 percent of the film (laughs). I’ll never forget that! After that, his words ‘tu bahot achcha actor hai’ kept ringing in my ears!”

But did he have any qualms about speaking on Bigg Boss OTT 3 about the lull in his career? “I’ve seen both—the lack of work and the lack of good work. But when I spoke about it back then, I was talking about the lack of any kind of work. The choice not to work is a luxury, but having no offers is a tough period. I’ve seen it more than once in my career, and I don’t feel ashamed of talking about it. It’s part of an actor’s life, and I don’t think there’s any harm in expressing it,” says the Khosla Ka Ghosla and Ek Tha Tiger actor.

According to Ranvir, many people have the perception that ‘good actors are rich,’ but he disagrees. Stressing how the struggle is often harder for some, he states, “It isn’t the case with a lot of us. It’s important to have savings. There are two kinds of actors. I’m sorry if my words offend anyone, but there are many whose parents send them stipends. They don’t have any money issues in their lives. They’re here just for the fame and fortune. But there are other actors, like myself, who depend on acting to pay their bills. For us, there’s no plan B. And for those people, I think the dearth of work is a slightly more pressing matter.”
