Australia makes bid for 2015 Asian Cup

Kuala Lumpur: Australia has officially handed over its bid book to host the 2015 Asian Cup — an event for which it is so far the only bidder.

Football Federation of Australian chairman Frank Lowy and chief executive Ben Buckley were on hand to present the bid documents to Asian Football Confederation president Mohammed Bin Hammam on Thursday.

Hammam said the bid "will have my recommendation when it goes before the AFC Executive Committee", which will announce the 2015 host in January.

Australia is also bidding to host the 2022 World Cup, with an announcement due in December. Qatar will host the 2011 Asian Cup.
