New Delhi: Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham offers his verdict on current United forward Dimitar Berbatov.

In 2008 Dimitar Berbatov made the exact same trip that Teddy Sheringham made 11 years earlier.

Both strikers swapped White Hart Lane for Old Trafford. Sheringham went on to win a famous Treble in 1999, and also helped fire the Red Devils to three successive titles, and the Bulgarian international can only hope for similar success.

Sheringham though insists Berbatov boasts all the necessary ingredients to inspire United to glory, and told the club's official website in his blog:

"I’m a big, big fan of Dimitar Berbatov. In fact, I think he’s a player like no other. He goes around the pitch at his own pace but then all of a sudden he’ll put on a burst of pace and leave his man for dead."

"Tottenham fans will remember a goal he scored against Charlton a few years ago when he flicked the ball around a defender and peeled off around the other side before collecting it again and poking it into the far corner. It was exquisite."

Sheringham continued: "He does things you don’t expect and that’s what makes him so exciting. He also brings other players into the game and he’s very clever on the ball. I really enjoy watching him.

"That said, I can understand how he could frustrate some supporters. Some people want to see a bit more enthusiasm from him, but that’s just how he plays football. Personally, I love it.

Regarding the flak that Berbatov will most likely come in for when he lines up against his former club this weekend in the FA Cup, the 42-year old Sheringham said:

"I’m not sure what sort of reception he’ll get from Spurs fans on Saturday. I think they all realised he was going to leave the club – I think everybody involved in football knew that was coming – but I think a lot of Spurs fans were disappointed with the manner in which he left.

"The whole saga just seemed to drag on and on and that left a sour taste in some people’s mouths. I hope a lot of Spurs fans will remember what he did in a Tottenham shirt.

"I don’t think Dimitar will feel any extra pressure to prove himself against his old club on Saturday. When you play for United you feel you have to prove your worth every time you step onto the pitch. You’re also in a situation where every team wants to beat you, so that always inspires you. You don’t need any extra motivation to play well.

"As for my allegiances, I honestly don't know who I'll be supporting on Saturday. I usually want both United and Spurs to win. All I can say is that I hope the best team over the 90 minutes comes out on top," he concluded.
