Chelsea are likely to revamp their squad during the summer transfer window under new boss Enzo Maresca. Apart from bringing in some midfielders, the Blues are reportedly in the pursuit of a striker. According to journalist Rahman Osman, Chelsea have kept their eyes on Spanish centre-forward Samu Omorodion.
The 20-year-old prodigy spent the last season at Deportivo Alaves on loan from Atletico Madrid. Osman shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Chelsea had held talks with the Atletico Madrid hierarchy earlier this week and both clubs were “serious” about the deal. The Spanish side is likely to demand a hefty amount for Omorodion, who have come under the radar of another English side, West Ham United.

“Understand Chelsea’s interest in Samu Omorodion is serious and they held talks with Atletico Madrid this week. He’s seen as the right profile and the right age. Atletico want a big fee. West Ham have also enquired. Samu was born in Spain to Nigerian parents,” Rahman Osman posted on X.

Earlier, transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano claimed that it was still not guaranteed that Chelsea would sign a striker this summer. During a discussion on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the London-based side might try Christopher Nkunku as a striker in the pre-season games.

Following the conclusion of the ongoing Euro 2024, Chelsea are set to tour the USA where they will play three friendly matches against Wrexham, Celtic and Club America. Fabrizio Romano reckons Enzo Maresca will first see how Christopher Nkunku performs in the attacking role before taking the final call about signing a striker. The PSG academy graduate is an attacking midfielder who has also played as a second striker in the France national team.
“Chelsea wants to bring in one more striker, but it is not guaranteed because it will depend on how Christopher Nkunku does in the pre-season as a striker under Enzo Maresca. They also have Marc Guiu and Nicolas Jackson,” Fabrizio Romano said in his YouTube video.
Samu Omorodion, who joined Atletico Madrid from Granada in August 2023, made 35 appearances in La Liga last season and scored nine goals while providing one assist.
