Football: Classy Chelsea win, City held
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane.

London: Defending champions Chelsea thrashed West Bromwich Albion in their first match of 2010-11 season. Last year's Golden Boot winner Didier Drogba scored a fantastic hat-trick to gun down West Brom 6-0 at Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane in the opening fixture of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea are off to a flying start in their defence of the Premier League championship as they thrashed West Brom 6-0 at Stamford Bridge. Didier Drogba scored a stunning hat-trick with Florent Malouda getting a brace. Frank Lampard also found himself on the goal sheet.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City played out an entertaining but goalless draw in the much-awaited curtain raiser for the new Premier League season. Goalkeeper Joe Hart denied Jermain Defoe, Tom Huddlestone and Benoit Assou-Ekotto during a dominant first half from Spurs in which Gareth Bale also struck the post.

Aston Villa thrashed West Ham 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday, five days after Martin O'Neill resigned as manager, with a goal from Jame Milner in what could be his last match before moving to Manchester City. Milner was jeered by the Villa Park crowd but he scored in the 66th minute.

Nikola Kalinic's early goal from a mistake by United States goalkeeper Tim Howard gave Blackburn a 1-0 win over Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. Howard raced off his line to clear the danger but spilled the ball and Kalinic tapped it home.

Birmingham rallied from two goals down to draw 2-2 against 10-man Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday. Scott Dann scored in the 78th minute and Liam Ridgewell hit another 10 minutes later to rescue a point for Birmingham.

Blackpool won its first game in England's topflight since 1971 when it registered a 4-0 victory at Wigan on Saturday's opening day of the Premier League season. Gary Taylor-Fletcher put the Tangerines ahead in the 16th minute and Marlon Harewood scored twice before halftime. Alex Baptiste then rounded off the scoring with 15 minutes left.

David Jones and Steven Fletcher scored first-half goals on Saturday in Wolverhampton Wanderers' 2-1 victory over Stoke in the Premier League. Jones brilliantly volleyed in a free kick in the 37th minute before Fletcher turned the ball home from close range two minutes later.
