Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp could receive a special honour at Liverpool, which even club legend Steven Gerrard did not get. Klopp is set to exit Liverpool FC as manager after nine long years in England. With the widespread news of his exit, several fans on social media have now called for a statue to be built to honour the 56-year-old’s achievements at the club.
This is something which was previously voiced by Gerrard himself back in 2020 when the Liverpool coach was on the verge of winning the Premier League title. “When Jurgen delivers the league, they should already be starting work on a statue of him,” he said while speaking to The Athletic.
In a post on X, a Liverpool fan page stated, “If there’s one man who deserves a statue outside Anfield, it’s Jurgen Norbert Klopp. Make it happen, LFC.”

Another seemed to agree as he wrote, “Build him a good statue now! (But get a good artist…his face in those photos looks a bit off).

One reply read, “Has to be a fist bump statue. Nothing else. Not trophies. Titled Normal One. Encapsulates everything he was for us.”

Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s greatest players who scored 186 times for the English side in 710 games. He won several titles at the club including a UEFA Champions League but it just wasn’t enough for him to have a statue made in his honour. However, several Liverpool fans feel that Klopp’s nine-year trophy-laden spell at Liverpool should see him honoured with this rare tribute. This special honour would see Klopp join the likes of Liverpool legends Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly in bronze outside Anfield.
On January 26, Jurgen Klopp made a shocking announcement on Liverpool’s social media that this would be his last season as The Reds’ manager. The visibly emotional coach reasoned that he “was running out of energy” and just could not continue working this job any longer.
The 56-year-old assumed the role of Liverpool manager back in 2015 and was tasked with restoring the club to its former glory. Klopp understood the profile well, doing what he was asked to and more. After a few seasons at the club, the German coach developed his squad to be a true European powerhouse, making the UEFA Champions League final in 2018. They lost that match to Real Madrid but made a second successive appearance in the competition’s final in 2019 and won it against Tottenham Hotspur.
Klopp’s biggest achievement at Liverpool was to deliver the Premier League title in 2019-20, putting an end to their 30-year drought. They lost only three matches that season while acquiring 99 points. Klopp also won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Carabao Cup with Liverpool while bagging the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup. He managed a whopping 466 games at the club while winning 283 of them.
Liverpool will now be looking to rebuild from scratch next season as they look for a potential heir to assume Klopp’s role at the club. Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is currently one of the favourite suitors for the job but nothing concrete has emerged yet.
