The Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season is all set to start on Friday, September 13, with a match between last season’s finalists Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Mumbai City FC.

The ISL season opener between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Mumbai City FC is scheduled to be played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC will head into the new season having been the most successful team in the history of the tournament. They have so far won the ISL League Shield and ISL Cup twice with all their triumphs occurring in the last four seasons.

The upcoming season of the ISL will mark Mohammedan SC’s first appearance in the competition. With this, the three Kolkata giants will vie for the prestigious title in this season’s ISL. Mohammedan SC advanced into the competition having earned a promotion with the I-League triumph last season.

Schedule

The brand new season of the ISL will start with reigning shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant taking on last year’s finalists Mumbai City FC in Kolkata on Friday, September 13. The fixture has been announced till the matches to be played on December 30. The announced fixtures list is for the first 84 matches.

Concussion substitution

The upcoming season of the ISL will also witness some new rules and regulations. Teams have been allowed to make one concussion substitution per match from this season. If a team opts for a concussion substitution, the opposition can avail of an additional substitution opportunity, which can be utilised simultaneously or later. Also as per a new provision, introduced by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and incorporated in the League Rules for this season, a footballer or a team can challenge a dismissal if it is believed that a player was unduly given marching orders due to wrong decision.

Teams vying for the ISL title this season are: Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Mumbai City FC, Bengaluru FC, East Bengal FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Goa, Kerala Blasters FC, Punjab FC, Hyderabad FC, Jamshedpur FC, NorthEast United FC, Mohammedan SC and Odisha FC.
