New Delhi: Sunil Chhetri spoke of his admiration for striker partner Bhaichung Bhutia after the Sikkimese Sniper completed 100 appearances for the nation.
Sunday's game was very significant for India as they needed to win against Kyrgyzstan in order to to stay in contention for a place in the finals of the Nehru Cup. This was coupled with it being the 100th game which would feature Bhaichung Bhutia in Indian colours.
“Winning the Nehru Cup will be a perfect gift for him (Bhaichung). All the players are very happy that he reached such a great landmark and we all hope that he never stops playing football,” said the Delhi boy.
Speaking on his own performance, Chhetri was pleased to have lasted for the stipulated 90 minutes.
“I got injured before the Barcelona tour so couldn’t play any full game in Spain.
“I am very happy to completed ninety minutes after a long time and scoring a goal also helped my confidence.”
Much was spoken about India’s dismal performance against Lebanon however, a better showing in their second game seems to have won back the critics who went overboard in their criticism.
“We are back on track again after last night’s victory (against Kyrgyzstan). Losing against Lebanon was a disappointing start but the team has bounced back immediately so we will now look to build on this first win.”
