London: French champions Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to outbid Real Madrid in the £85million battle to sign Tottenham star Gareth Bale, says the Daily Mail. The daily reported on Thursday that PSG are pursuing Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas in hopes that he will help convince Bale to follow him to Paris.
Since 2011, when they were taken over by Qatar Sport Investments, PSG have spent more than £200m on transfer fees. The highest fee paid for a football player ever is £80m, paid by Real Madrid to Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo. According to the Daily Mail, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is eager to outbid the spanish giants in securing the Wales international.
Bale, 23, scored 26 goals in the recent Premier League season. He was named England's Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association in May with a narrow victory over Manchester United's Dutch international forward Robin van Persie, who won it last year when he was at Arsenal.
