Son Heung-min Sustains Finger Injury Amid Row in South Korea’s Asian Cup Camp, According to Report
Son Heung-min came forward to calm down his raging teammates after a row broke out during a lunch gathering at the South Korean camp ahead of their AFC Asian Cup clash, as some younger members of the squad were in a hurry to finish their meals as they had planned to enjoy a game of ping pong.

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min is understood to have dislocated his finger during an altercation with one of his national teammates ahead of South Korea’s AFC Asian Cup semi-final fixture against Jordan earlier this month. Despite the injury, Son made sure to feature in the crucial game where South Korea ended up conceding a 2-0 defeat. The Tottenham star was spotted having straps on two of his fingers in the right hand during the clash at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Qatar. South Korea entered the game as the favourites but they failed to register a shot on target, with Jordan mostly dominating the proceedings.

According to a report by the Sun, the South Korean footballers gathered to have dinner together on the eve of the knockout game. The outlet claims some younger members of the squad were in a hurry to finish their meals as they had planned to enjoy a game of ping pong.

Son Heung-min, the captain of the team, was also present at the dinner area. He was not reportedly happy with the players leaving the place early as having dinner together is often considered a way of strengthening the bond among the teammates. This led to an altercation between Son and 22-year-old Lee Kang-in, who was interested in the ping pong game.

A source close to the matter told The Sun, “The row erupted from nowhere. A few of the younger players ate very quickly and left the rest of the squad to play ping pong. Son asked them to come back and sit down when some disrespectful things were said to him. Within seconds the row spilled into the dining area and players were being pulled apart.”

While all of these were going on, Son Heung-min came forward to calm down his raging teammates. That’s when he sustained an injury on his finger. “Son badly injured his finger trying to calm everyone down,” the source was quoted as saying to The Sun.

Following South Korea’s Asian Cup exit, Son Heung-min returned to England. He came in as a substitute in Tottenham’s last Premier League clash against Brighton on February 10. With Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson scoring in the second half, Tottenham claimed a 2-1 win in that game.
