Troubleshooting Discord
Force-close Discord and open it again. To force-close Discord, open the system tray in the bottom-right corner by clicking the up arrow. Right-click the Discord icon and click Quit Discord. Then, open Discord again. You may need to repeat this method a few times. If you close Discord from the taskbar, you may just be minimizing it. Be sure to close it fully from the system tray or the Task Manager.
Run Discord as administrator. To do this, fully close Discord. Right-click the Discord icon and select Run as administrator. You may need to press OK or Yes to confirm.
Check your Wi-Fi network. If Discord is stuck on Starting… you may have an unstable connection. Check your network, and if needed, troubleshoot your connection.
Flush the DNS server. This can help connection issues on your end. Do the following: Open the Command Prompt as administrator. Type ipconfig /flushdns. Press Enter.
Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus. If you downloaded a new antivirus software recently, or if you updated your security settings, you may have accidentally blocked Discord. Once disabled, try opening Discord again.
Press Ctrl+R. This is the keyboard shortcut to reload pages or programs. Make sure Discord is selected as the main window, and then press the keyboard shortcut to refresh and reload Discord.
Check Discord's status. In some cases, Discord may have a system outage that can affect its performance on your device. You can check if all systems are operational at https://discordstatus.com/.
Why is Discord not opening?
Discord may not open due to software bugs, firewall settings, or server issues. If you see the Starting… loading screen for longer than a few seconds, you may have an unstable internet connection. In some cases, the Discord servers may go down, so you'll be unable to use it until it's fixed on their end. You may also see a grey screen when trying to open Discord.
