Appearing Confident
Follow your own interests. Guys are more attracted to girls who seem to have a lot going on. A great way to do this is to actively pursue the things you like. Start a band, take up painting, audition for the school play, try out for a sport, or start a social action club. Doing something you care about makes you appear more confident and self-assured. Don’t worry about getting noticed when you first get started. Just do things you care about. Be open with people at school about what you’re doing. Similarly, you might wear shirts with pictures or sayings connected to your passions. For instance, if you’re writing poetry in your spare time, you might wear a shirt that says, “Poems are my beats.”Tip: Make a list of the things you want to do or the goals you’d like to accomplish. Then, think of small ways you can start doing them now. Check off one small thing every day or once a week to keep yourself on track.
Do fun things with your friends. Invite your friends to do things on evenings and weekends, and attend school functions as a group. At lunch and in the hallways, laugh and tell jokes with your friends. Having fun with your friends makes you look like a more well-rounded, exciting person. Also, it makes you feel good, which the guy you like will notice. If you have a social media account, post about the fun you’re having with your friends. If you’re in a class with the boy you like, talk loudly to someone else about all of the fun you’re having.
Wear clothing that makes you look and feel your best. Choose outfits that look great on your body so you both look good and have more confidence. Additionally, try to evoke a style that shows off your interests, such as a leather jacket to create an edgy vibe. Try on your outfits the night before you wear them to make sure you’re going to look your best. For example, leather, denim, studs, and band tees can create a rocker look, while florals and pastels look feminine. For a classic look, you might pair jeans with a neutral t-shirt or top. It doesn’t matter what size you are. Just wear clothes that make you feel amazing, and your guy will take notice.Tip: Wearing red is a great way to draw a guy’s attention, so you might choose a red shirt, skirt, or dress to make your outfit more noticeable.
Maintain good hygiene so you look and smell fresh. Being clean and smelling good are important if you want to attract a boy. Take showers or baths every day, and always use your personal care products, like deodorant. This will show him you care about your appearance. If you’re not sure what type of personal care products, like deodorant, hair care products, moisturizer, or perfume, you should be using at your age, talk to your parents or guardians for advice.
Use natural-looking makeup to enhance your features, if you want. You don’t need makeup to impress a boy. However, wearing a little bit of makeup, like lip gloss and mascara, can enhance your natural beauty. Plus, it might give you more confidence. If you don’t usually wear makeup, start with just lip gloss and mascara. Keep in mind that makeup isn't just for girls. If you're a guy who's looking to impress a guy, don't shy away from makeup if you like the look.
Having a Great Attitude
Adopt a positive attitude. To be more positive, start by saying nice things to yourself. Then, start giving compliments to others, and express gratitude when people compliment you. Whenever you’re around the guy you want to impress, make positive observations about the environment, what’s happening, and life in general. This will make you seem like a fun person to be around. For instance, you might say to yourself, “I’m a funny person,” “I’m really smart,” and “I love my look today.” You might compliment others by saying, “I love this top on you,” “That was a smart answer in class earlier,” or “You’re a really great singer!” When someone compliments you, say, “Thanks so much,” or “Aw, I really appreciate that.” Make positive observations by saying, “It’s such a lovely day today,” “This class is so fun,” or “I’m glad we all got to come here today.”
Be nice to other people. Kindness is a very attractive quality, and guys notice it. To show him you’re a nice person, step up to help people when they need it, and always have something kind to say about others. Whenever others are gossiping or being mean, change the subject instead of joining in. For instance, you could show a new student around, or help someone pick up the books they dropped. When people are gossiping, you don’t need to try to make them feel bad, which might make you seem judgmental. Instead, turn the topic to something more positive. You might say, “Is anyone else excited about the new superhero movie releasing this weekend? I can’t wait!”
Ignore what other people think. No matter what you do, you can never please everyone. That’s because we all have different interests, values, and preferences, so what’s cool to someone can seem silly to someone else. Don’t waste time trying to live up to someone else’s standards. Instead, decide what you care about and who you want to be and let that be your guide. Ignoring other people’s opinions of you will make you seem strong and resilient.
Laugh at yourself when you make mistakes or embarrass yourself. Everyone makes mistakes and embarrasses themselves, and it’s just part of life. However, how you handle it can make a big impact on how others react. Instead of feeling embarrassed or bad about yourself, make a joke about what happened and laugh it off. This puts you in control of the situation and shows that you can stay positive no matter what. For instance, let’s say you trip and fall in the cafeteria, spilling all of your food on yourself. This might feel mortifying and you might be tempted to hide in the bathroom afterwards. Instead, laugh really loud and say something like, “I never did like this shirt!” or “This gives new meaning to fast food!” That way, people will laugh with you instead of at you, and the incident will fade quickly from people’s thoughts.
Smile often so you appear to be happy. It might seem obvious that smiling is important, but it’s easy to forget to smile. Whenever you’re around the guy you like, make a point to keep a smile on your face. Not only will this make your face look more attractive, it will also make you look like a positive person. Practice smiling in a mirror. Check in with yourself every few minutes to make sure you’re smiling.
Catching His Eye
Copy his actions so you seem compatible with him. He’ll be more attracted to you if you seem to have things in common with him. Carry your books on the same side as he does, tilt your head in the same direction, or mimic his body language. Try to copy him whenever you’re around him, as it might take some time for him to notice your actions. For instance, watch him in the hallways to see how he carries his bag, then copy it. In class, notice how he sits, then get into a similar position.
Make eye contact with him for 3 seconds. Glance his way to see if he’ll look back. If he does, briefly hold his eyes for a count of 3, giving him a quick smile. Then, look away. This shows him you’re interested in getting to know him. Don’t stare for too long, as he might start to get uncomfortable. It just takes 3 seconds to get his attention. If he doesn’t look back at you, just look away and try again later. You don’t want him to think you’ve been staring at him.
Flip your hair in front of him. Gently push your hair over your shoulder, or slowly turn your head back and forth to shift your hair away from your face. A casual hair flip can immediately grab a guy’s attention, especially if you expose your neck. This appeals to a guy on a biological level, which helps make you appear more attractive. Don’t flip your hair over and over. Just do it once or twice whenever you think he’s looking.Variation: If you have short hair, try playing with it instead.
Use open body language to appear approachable. Keep your arms at your sides or use them to gesture as you talk. Similarly, keep your back straight, tilt your chin up, and hold your gaze forward. When you walk, carry yourself with confidence by looking around you, maintaining a comfortable stride, and swinging your arms at your sides. Avoid closing yourself off by crossing your arms, hunching forward, or looking down.
