2 Pipili gangrape accused sent to jail

PURI: Two of the accused in the alleged Pipili gangrape case were on Friday remanded in judicial custody. Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Pipili, Meenakshi Priyadarshani rejected the bail petitions of Premananda Nayak and Sukant Pradhan alias Abua and sent them to judicial custody.   While Nayak was in two-day CB remand, Sukanta Pradhan alias Abua was arrested on Thursday. The JMFC sent Abua to judicial custody for 14 days. The main accused, Prasanta Pradhan, is still on a three-day remand with the Crime Branch. Earlier, another accused Purna Chandra Swain was sent to jail after his arrest. The 19-year-old girl from Arjungada village under Pipili police limits was allegedly raped by the four in November last year.Maharathy takes out Swabhiman YatraFormer agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy took out a ‘Swabhiman Yatra’ in his Assembly constituency, Pipili, seeking people’s support. He was escorted to his constituency by his supporters from Bhubaneswar in a bike procession. Maharathy toured Delang and Pipili. “Have patience and truth will prevail,” the five-time MLA assured his supporters. Nearly 10 platoons of armed police ensured law and order under the vigil of DIG DS Kuttey and Puri SP Amitendranath Sinha.
