20% of developed land for Poor

HYDERABAD: The state government has decided to earmark 20-25 percent of the developed land in housing projects for economically weaker section (EWS) and lower income group (LIG) categories.For this purpose, the government has deputed officials to other cities to study the acts, rules and procedures with respect to housing projects for these categories.  The state government has issued orders in January stating that the developer shall provide atleast 20 per cent of the developed land for EWS and LIG categories in all the housing projects as part of reforms under JNNURM. The team is expected to submit a report specifying aspects like the minimum extent of layout of a housing project highlighting the percentage of reservation required for earmarking land to the EWS/LIG groups, number of units required to be earmarked, system for identification of beneficiaries, incentives such as the exemptions of payment of fee  etc.The team would submit its report to the director of town planning within a month.
