Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) has decided to increase the number of seats from the next academic session, said its Director on Saturday.
From the session starting June-end, the total number of seats for full time postgraduate programmes will be increased from 265 to 335. In addition, the institute is also starting a full time one-year programme for executives, where the number of seats would be 30.
The institute’s decision comes amid a controversy on whether the Indian Institutes of Technology and IIMs have the capacity to increase seats to offset the impact of a new quota on general category students.
IIMC Director Shekhar Chaudhury said the institute had decided to increase seats although the HRD ministry had not ordered it do so.
On the other hand, IIM-Ahmedabad has decided not to increase the number of seats. The institute director B Dholakia had said it was not possible to increase the number as the plate was full.
