Mumbai: The public prosecutor in the 1993 Mumbai blast case, Ujjwal Nikam has said that he has been receiving threat calls, since the day the TADA court started pronouncing the verdicts.
Nikam alleged that some of those accused in the case do not want him to continue with the case.
"I have strongly felt that some of those on trials have been trying to suggest to me that I must quit the prosecution team but I have not let up," Nikam told reporters.
He has also informed the court about the threats and the court has assured that the delivery of the verdict would be speeded up and has ordered that only those persons who are to be tried on that day will be brought to the court that day.
Nikam has been credited to lead the case against the perpetrators of the 1993 serial blasts that killed 257 people and so far has called for the severe punishment to those convicted guilty.
The TADA court started delivering verdict from September 12 and since then it has pronounced most of them guilty. Only few members of Memom family were let off on account of "lack of evidence."
Nikam has already been provided with security and the Court particular resembles fortress with tiers of security guards deployed.
Filmstar Sanjay Dutt is one of the high profile accused, the verdict on whose case is expected to come in the next two weeks.
Of the 123 defendants, 11 died during the trial, 36 are in jail and the rest are out on bail. Another 37 suspects, including Ibrahim and Tiger Memon, have been declared "absconders" or fugitives.
