Africans dominate Delhi Half Marathon
Rwanda's Diudone Disi was the winner in the men's category; Deriba Alemu of Ethiopia won the women's race.

New Delhi: The third edition of the Vodafone Delhi Half Marathon took place on Sunday with an estimated 28,000 people including 7,000 professional athletes donning their running shoes.

The marathon saw new course records being set up in both the men's and the women's race. While Rwanda's Diudone Disi was the winner in the men's category, Deriba Alemu of Ethiopia won the women's race to bring an end to Kenyan dominance.

Disi, ranked No. 6 in the world, clocked 1hour and 43seconds and Alemu, ranked 10th, took 1hour 10minutes and 30seconds to claim the title.

Kenya's Isaac Macharia (1hour and 47seconds) and Tanzania's Dixon Marwah (1hour 2minutes and 2seconds) were second and third respectively.

The Kenyan duo of Patrick and Wilson Kiprotich, who is the world No 3, finished fourth and fifth respectively in a photo finish, clocking 1hour 2minutes and 3seconds.

In the women's section another Ethopian, Atsede Habtambu, came second with a time of 1hour 10minutes and 36seconds while Kenyan Alice Timbill was third in 1hour 10minutes and 40seconds.

The Indian challenge in the men's section was led by Ram Singh Yadav who was 16th with a time of 1hour 6minutes and 9seconds. Deep Chand was 17th finishing the race just a second behind Yadav.

Kavita Raut was the new Indian women's champion as last year's champion Pampa Chanda failed to even make the top-20. Kavita finished 15th overall with a timing of 1hour 18minute and 34seconds.

L Preethi Rao was the next Indian at 19th after clocking 1hour 20minute 38seconds while Vaishali Chatare was third.
