Ahmedabad: A Mumbai-based jeweller was relieved of a bag containing jewellery worth Rs 90 lakh outside a police chowky near Parimal garden area on Friday evening, police said. According to the complaint filed by Pradeep Dhakan he and his brother Pravin had come here to sell ornaments to jewellers.
On Friday afternoon they visited a jeweller on C G Road and sold some ornaments. Later, they drove in their car to Kalyan Jewellers' showroom near Parimal Garden, Ambawadi. The showroom is across the road from Chhadawad police chowky.
"Pradeep said that after parking the car on the opposite side of the road, his brother went to the showroom to inquire if they were interested into purchasing ornaments. He had left the bag with 3.5 kg of ornaments with Pradeep, who remained in the car," said inspector GR Rabari.
A young man, between 25 to 30 years old, told Pradeep that some Rs ten notes had fallen outside. As soon as Pradeep stepped out and started collecting the notes, the man picked up the bag which was on the front seat and vanished.
"It seems to be the handiwork of a gang which steals valuables by diverting attention of the owner by dropping notes near the vehicle," said Rabari. Further investigation is on.
